Online Dispensary in North York, ON

North York existed as its own independent city until 1998, when Toronto’s amalgamation folded it into the larger metropolis alongside Scarborough, Etobicoke, East York and old Toronto, and residents here still often think of North York as its own distinct place rather than just another part of downtown Toronto. Mel Lastman Square, named for North York’s last mayor before amalgamation, sits at the centre of a purpose-built civic core that includes the Toronto Centre for the Arts, a performing arts venue that keeps a full calendar of touring shows and local productions. The stretch of Yonge Street running through North York Centre has become one of the most vertical corridors in the region, packed with condo towers that grew up around the subway line over the past two decades, giving North York a skyline that looks strikingly different from its lower-rise, more suburban past.

Black Creek Pioneer Village, just at North York’s edge, preserves a nineteenth-century Ontario settlement with restored buildings, costumed interpreters and working farm animals, offering a sharp contrast to the dense towers rising a short drive away. York University’s Keele campus sits nearby as well, adding a large student population that spills into North York’s rental market and retail. Between its own civic identity from the pre-amalgamation years, the dense Yonge corridor and its pockets of genuine green space and history, North York has carved out a character that feels distinct from both downtown Toronto and the suburbs further out.
