Online Dispensary in Innisfil, ON

Innisfil takes its name from a poetic term for Ireland, Inis Fáil, chosen by early settlers who arrived through the Holland River and across Lake Simcoe to the Big Bay Point area in the 1830s and 1840s on land the Huron-Wendat had used long before European survey crews mapped it out in 1820. The town grew as an agricultural and lumber community tied to Lake Simcoe’s ports, and it wasn’t incorporated as its own municipality until 1991, later than many of its neighbors along the same lakeshore. Rather than a single downtown core, Innisfil is really a patchwork of distinct communities, including Alcona as the main urban centre, Cookstown known for outlet shopping and easy Highway 400 access, and smaller hamlets like Lefroy, Belle Ewart, Stroud and Churchill, each with its own small-town identity.

The biggest recent shift in Innisfil’s landscape has been Friday Harbour Resort, a 600-acre development on Big Bay Point that opened in 2019 and now includes the largest inland marina in Canada with room for a thousand boats, alongside a golf course and a beach club on the lake. That resort has pulled a lot of new attention toward Innisfil’s stretch of Lake Simcoe, adding a modern leisure destination on top of the town’s older identity as a farming and cottage-country community. Between the lake access, the highway corridor and the newer resort development, Innisfil sits in an interesting spot, close enough to the GTA for commuters but still carrying the feel of cottage country for anyone heading up for the weekend.
