Online Dispensary in Collingwood, ON

Collingwood grew up around one of the busiest shipbuilding operations on the Great Lakes, a stretch of history that ran from 1883 until the shipyards closed in 1986, leaving behind a harbour that once launched the Huronic, the first steel-hulled ship built in Canada. The town takes its name from Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood, Lord Nelson’s second-in-command at Trafalgar, though the harbour was originally known by a very different name, Hen and Chickens Harbour, before European settlement. Collingwood was incorporated as a town in 1858, nine years before Confederation, on land that had been home to the Petun people long before the Ontario Simcoe and Huron Railway reached the harbour in 1855. Downtown Collingwood carries that layered history well, holding the distinction of being the first Canadian municipality with a heritage conservation district listed on the Canadian Register of Historic Places.

These days Collingwood is better known as a four-season resort town anchored by Blue Mountain just outside the core, drawing skiers in winter and hikers and cyclists along the escarpment the rest of the year. The old grain elevator that operated on the waterfront for 64 years is gone now, but the harbourfront it once dominated has been rebuilt into trails, parks and marina space shared through the summer. Georgian Bay’s limestone caves nearby add another layer of outdoor draw, and that mix of shipbuilding grit with resort polish gives Collingwood a character genuinely different from most towns its size.
